University of Scranton Undergraduate Commencement
The University of Scranton conferred more than 890 bachelor's and associate's degrees at its undergraduate commencement on May 27 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Very Reverend Timothy P. Kesicki, S.J., president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, read the remarks of the principal speaker Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, who was unable to attend the ceremony in person because he is undergoing treatment for a form of acute leukemia. Both Father Kesicki and Bishop Murry, in absentia, received honorary degrees from the University. Honorary degrees were also presented to Sister Ann Walsh, I.H.M., former CEO and current assistant director of Friends of the Poor; William Whitaker, founding president of the Washington Jesuit Academy, Washington. D.C.; and Cecelia Lynett Haggerty, Times-Shamrock Communications and former University trustee.

Social Science Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Pi Gamma Mu, the international honor society in social science. For induction into the honor society, students must be of junior academic standing, maintain an overall grade point average of 3.4 or higher, and have completed at least 21 credits in the disciplines of economics, human services, psychology, sociology, political science or history. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 1971.

Wilkes University Students Participate in Community Service in Costa Rica in Alternative Spring Break
Wilkes University students participated in an alternative spring break trip in Costa Rica volunteering with the sports committee of San Marcos. The students worked with the organization to paint the playground, basketball court and assisted with the sand box installation. Isolated from the main provinces of the central valley of Costa Rica, San Marcos and the region of Los Santos have a lack of services and extra curriculum activities for children and youth.

Cedar Crest College 2017-18 Annual Day of Service
Cedar Crest College believes that being civically engaged in one's community is a critical step in one's life journey. Each year during New Student Orientation, students are provided an opportunity to begin their civic journey by volunteering during our annual Day of Service. This opportunity allows students to serve others while demonstrating learning, connection, and caring involvement in the surrounding community. The Class of 2021 teamed up with faculty and staff members, Interim President Elizabeth Meade, and the Friends of the Allentown Parks for the college's Day of Service on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The group cleaned up the grounds between Fountain Park and Valania Park in Allentown. Later in the day the group walked to Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ at 620 Hamilton Street, where Cedar Crest College held its first classes on September 5, 1867, for a photo.

Kutztown University Announces Degrees
Kutztown University has conferred degrees on more than 475 students during the summer, fall and winter semesters. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees since the spring 2017 announcement. The cumulative grade point average necessary for honors distinction is: with honor (cum laude) 3.40; with high honor (magna cum laude) 3.60 and with highest honor (summa cum laude) 3.80. Students listed multiple times have been awarded more than one degree. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.

The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

Cedar Crest College Art Society 2017-18 Officers
The Cedar Crest College Art Society is open to any student with an interest in art. Its purpose is to increase general awareness and appreciation of art issues, activities, and work on campus and in the community. The Society gives students opportunities to learn about fields and professions in art by sponsoring guest lecturers and hosting trips to local galleries and museums. It also coordinates the end-of-semester Studio Celebration, a collection of student work, hosts arts-and-craft days throughout the semester, and offers creative activities at campus events!
